Perth Indoor Final Report
A fortnight after their historic BUCS win, EURC had a slightly disappointing end to the indoor season as an understrength team of VIII were agonisingly beaten by a single point by close rivals St Andrews. However, there were some notable successes in the other events for the Edinburgh shooters.
In A class, Nikki Sammels, Rory MacLeod and Ben Kelly took 3rd, 4th and 5th place respectively while Lara Muttiah placed 2nd in B class and Eddie Pennington came a very creditable 4th in a closely fought C class.
Ben and Nikki were unable to add to their SSS Grand Prix pairs win but shot well to secure 2nd in the Pairs category with a score of 389, a mere two points off first place.
In the Team of IV event, Edinburgh took a comfortable 1st place to add to their string of Grand Prix wins. In addition, Nikki, Lara and Emma Sweet won the Ladies’ Triad to complete yet another EURC domination of SSS team trophies.
With the final scores counted, the top 10 shooters were selected to contest a special two card final. An excellent EURC effort meant that half of these finalists were representing Edinburgh. Christopher Gray and Lara entered with a score of 193 out of 200 each, Ben with 194 and Nikki and Rory both moved into the final with excellent 195s.
Half an hour later, the results were announced and EURC’s Ben Kelly claimed first place to end his EURC career on a real high. Nikki also took 3rd position on the podium, a strong showing in an extremely competitive field. Lara shared 5th place after a magnificent effort in what has been a real breakthrough season for her while Chris and Rory tied for 8th place after fading away from the pack in their second shoots.
With the indoor smallbore season now ended for another year, EURC turn their attention to Aberdeen where they will compete in their first outdoor event of the season in late March. They will be hoping to add to their impressive list of silverware from what has been an exceptional season, even by the club’s historically high standards.
