SSS Glasgow Report
The final SSS Grand Prix of the season in Glasgow saw EURC finish the GP series in some style. Despite a small dip in scores at St Andrew’s two weeks before, the club made a welcome return to form and took home 1st place in the all important team of VIII category by 32 points.
With our A class marksmen being in top form, it was no surprise when Christopher Gray, Ben Kelly and Emma Sweet took 2nd, 3rd and 4th places respectively. Vicky Carter led the way for the club in B Class this season to place 3rd.
Ben and Nikki Sammels won the pairs category, while Chris and Rory MacLeod came 4th. It was superb to see the A team of IV coming 1st, followed by the B and C teams in 3rd and 5th places. Emma, Nikki and Bryony Fraser-Burn clinched the number one spot in the ladies triad by a margin of 11 points. In addition, Kim Pope placed 2nd in the alumni category.
Most importantly, EURC topped the SSS league tables to place 1st overall in the team of VIII, team of IV, and Ladies’ Triad competitions as well as both 1st and 3rd place in the Pairs competition. Furthermore there were some fine individual performances with final positions in the individual events still to be confirmed. This is the first time in some years that a single club has claimed all the team events in addition to the pairs event and bodes extremely well for the future of EURC.
The club had considerable success in not only SSS but also BUCS. In the BUCS postal league the A team won Division 1, finishing top in the country by two points, and the B team shot outstandingly well to win division 4, also by two points. No other club in the country won all the divisions their club was entered in, so this is quite an achievement! EURC members are now preparing for the Final at BUCS next weekend. The team of 6 is all on fine form and poised to take a run at the medals in the team event. The club will also have a strong representation in the BUCS individuals: Chris Gray, Richard Sobolewski, Nikki Sammels and Bryony Fraser-Burn all qualified for the individual finals, made up of the top 20 student shooters in the country. Nikki and Bryony are also taking part in the Ladies finals, in which they stand a very good chance of medalling. On the back of their stunning SSS season so far, EURC appear to be well placed to mount a serious challenge for BUCS points as well as continuing their fine SSS form at the SSS Championships and SSS Outdoors events.
